Distressed by this luxury
Jan. 15th, 2010 06:39 pmSo, I'm sure most of you are aware of the earthquakes in Haiti. It's a horrible tragedy... and the thing that's caught my attention most? Hollywood's response. They're going to hold the Golden Globes "in honor" of the deaths and survivors in Haiti. Meanwhile, they are begging and pleading with normal people to GO OVER to Haiti, and donate their money to the survivors.
That, in and of itself is not a bad thing. If people can, they should assist those in trouble. It's the American way for god's sake! But, to think that the people of Hollywood are HAVING AN EXPENSIVE PARTY while telling normal civilians to donate money disgusts me. All the people on the red carpet are giving lip service to how worried and sad they are for what's going on. There's even a Haiti-born actress talking about how she's worried for her family back in Haiti... and yet, what is she doing? GOING TO THE GOLDEN GLOBES. If my family was in a natural disaster, I would leave the freakin party and go donate MY TIME AND MONEY to making sure they were okay. I wouldn't be asking people with much smaller incomes than my own to do it.
... Sorry, it just really made me angry, the disconnect of activists in Hollywood and actual disasters.
